I first heard the gospel song "Be Encouraged" around 1995 on the radio in Los Angeles, California. During that time in my life I also listened to Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, and Bebe & Cece Winans. This song helped bring me through peer pressure of the 1990s when there were so many High Rollers - Dope Dealers in our neighbor. The neighborhood guys thought they could influence young women to be their girlfriends due to the large stacks of money they had in their pockets (Dope Dealers). But yeah, songs like Be Encouraged kept me walking the walk and not be tempted in all the bad influences that were going on in Los Angeles. And there were many negative things going in the 1990s if you lived in urban areas like I did.
This song by Pastor Becton is still helpful for me today; it reminds me of things that I overcame; plus its remains an uplifting gospel song in my ear.
